I have been thinking of writing my birth story but newborns are very time consuming! Today our little team green turned team blue baby is 1 day shy of 1 month! He made his grand entrance into the world on December 14th, 2011, 2 days before his December 16th due date. He was 20 inches long and 7lbs 8ozs with a full head of hair. Just the cutest little peanut I know!
Tuesday December 13th Mommy went to get a massage in the morning. Then I went to walk around, it was a cloudy, gloomy, rainy, COLD day so she went to Target. Apparently this all worked because 5pm Tuesday, December 13th I started having contractions. They were not consistent nor were they timeable at that point, but they were strong and made me stop and breathe. I didn't really have much of an appetite and the contractions were getting closer together, about 12-17 min apart. Not close enough to go to the hospital though. I had a timer on my iphone and then my phone battery died. At one point your daddy asked me "How far apart are the contractions?" and I replied "I don't know, my phone battery died"...that must've been the 1st sign that I was going delirious before childbirth! Finally around 11pm I decided they weren't getting closer together and maybe I should try to get some rest. So I went to bed. Well that lastest a whole hour when I was woke up with a contraction that was the worst I had felt! I started timing them and about 3 later I woke Jake up and told him it was time to go. And he told me "since you woke me up this better be the real thing". Then he says "how soon do we need to leave?" and I wondered what the heck do YOU need to do!
We got to the hospital and they hooked up all the monitors and at that point my contractions were 3-4 minutes apart and I was dialated to about 4. So I started walking the halls with Jake. Since we were told it would be the next afternoon before we met the baby, we decided he should probably go home and let the dogs out and feed them breakfast. So he did that and I continued to walk and walk and walk and walk. I was progressing slowly and they decided to start the pitocin.
This is when everything went fast! The doctor broke my water around 8am and said she would see me late afternoon. I had intense back labor. I caved and got an epidural because the back labor was unbearable. The epidural was heaven at that point. The doctor ordered Jake go to breakfast so he left and I rested. Then I was in a lot of pain again. Terrible terrible pain in my lower back. I swear my tailbone was going to be pushed through my skin. The nurse came to check me and I was fully dialated and ready to go. The doctor was not, she was in another procedure. The epidural was not working. I was crying. My left leg was numb. It was painful. I had to "labor down" until the doctor could come. Tears. Finally I could start pushing. More pain. The doctor came and was concerned about the baby heartbeat. The cord was around the babys neck. Jake was told he couldn't cut the cord and the baby was going to be vacuumed out and given straight to the nurse for testing. The vacuum suction didn't work the 1st time, all I heard was pop. The second time the suction worked and relief!
She held the baby up so Jake could tell us "It's a Boy!!" and then baby was rushed off. Jake said he was very blue at that point and he didn't care what they did! But immediately he started crying! My baby is alright! He scored 9 on the Apgar tests and was returned back to mama as soon as they could. He was just the perfect pink shade! 7lbs 8oz and 20in long with a full head of hair!
